There are many items at home or in the closet that leave us scratching our heads, wondering, “How do I wash this?” If you are like most people, you might not even wash it at all if it is not clear on how to do so. Even if it does not have a tag or instructions, there is a way! We hope to help you answer this question on the most questionable items!

Pillows

Most should have instructions on the tag that suggest it can be cleaned in your washer, but we suggest bringing these into Deluxe Cleaners. Most high efficiency washers don’t get high enough water levels to properly flush the detergent out of items that thick. They can also put the washer out of balance.

Weighted Blankets

Boy, aren’t these nice to have around?! We do not consider using your home washer as it can be way too heavy and put it out of balance. Bring it to Deluxe Cleaners where we have professional equipment to handle the weight. If not to us, maybe to your local laundromat where they have larger washers and dryers. It might be risky though and you might be held liable for damaging their machines! In this case, it’s best to just drop it off at Deluxe!

Baseball Cap

Bet you were not expecting this one, but it is one of the most asked questions. It is good too, since they are so prevalent in our society. First, you will want to spot-clean the cap if it is needed. Afterward, do not put these in the washer. Instead, fill a bucket or sink with warm water. Add a tablespoon of laundry detergent. Soak the hat for two hours. Lightly scrub it for a few minutes. Rinse it with warm water and pat it dry.

Tennis Shoes

Shoes starting to smell funky? Remove the soles and laces, put them in a mesh sweater bag, and wash them in cold water in your machine with regular laundry detergent. Do not stick them in the dryer, but let them air dry.

Stuffed Animals

Thankfully, there is a pretty easy solution. Stuffed animals can be germ factories if not cleaned once in a while. They can just go into the washer on the delicate cycle. Use warm or cool water. Avoid hot water as to not melt any glued on embellishments. The same thing applies to drying them. Avoid machine drying, but instead set them out to air dry.

Bottom Line

Most everything that has material on it is washable. Methods can vary widely. Doing some research first though never hurts. It is better to be safe than sorry. If you are extra worried about washing your grandfather’s lucky Red’s hat, drop it off at Deluxe Cleaners. We are experienced and ready to take on even the most challenging of items.
